Kiana Johnson grew up in Uptown, on the Northside of Chicago. Due to her inner-city environment, she was no stranger to violence nor death. The tender age of 6 was the first time her perspective on life and death changed, but it wouldn’t be the last.
At an early age, Johnson started using basketball as an outlet by creating a world of her own, where she controlled the narrative. She played basketball at some of the top programs throughout the United States, where she received over 15 different accolades and achievements on state and national levels. Throughout high school and college, Johnson wasn’t always able to control the narrative, which soon complicated her life with racial, financial, mental, and emotional obstacles.
After college, she went on to become a professional basketball player. She is currently in Iceland, where she has played for the last three years. Outside of basketball, Kiana spends her leisure time relaxing, reading, writing, and spending time with her family. She enjoys peaceful scenes in nature, near bodies of water, in gardens, orparks.
Johnson wrote this book with hopes to reach those who struggle to identify their emotions or needs help being true to themselves. She hopes to inspire anyone who was knocked down and wants to get back up but needs assistance moving forward. Johnson wants to encourage and inspire anyone with these feelings and to help them overcome as she has.
